Save the date! Our Christmas fayre will be returning to the Mytchett centre on the 25th November from 10am – 12pm. There will be lots of games to play, sweets to be won and Santa to see! We look forward to seeing everyone and their family. All our welcome, so no need to be a member of our Scout group.
After last year’s wonderful camp locally in East Horsley, this year we headed to a lovely farm in Holsworthy, North Devon. Long-time friends of the group, Mike and Linda at Crinacott Farm, have hosted many memorable summer camps for us over the years and we are very excited to had been invited again. In a flash, Mildred (our big red bus) was pulling away from the Scout hut and we were on our way!
Summer camp normally comprises our Scouts and Senior Scout sections, but this year we also welcomed our Cub section for the beginning of the week. Whilst the weather fulfilled its brief as a British summer, there were no damp spirits in the camp – there wasn’t time! From shooting to sailing, from canoeing to singing around an open fire. You name it; we did it!
We would like to extend our thanks to Mike and Linda for hosting a brilliant camp and we hope to be back soon!
I would like to say an enormous thank you to all those helping at our stall today at Ash Fete. We had some great activity photos, section information and, of course, some fun games to play! It was great to see all those visitors. If you visited our stall and want to enquire about our group, don’t forget to head to our contact us page.
On the 1st April 2023 was the inaugural Skip Johnson Memorial Hike, where teams across counties competed in a blind route hike in the fastest time. Fortunately, our leaders bought it home for our group. Well done! Neil Johnson kindly visited to present the shield in person. Skip Johnson was his father and played a very important role in bringing scouting to thousands of children in the UK over his lifetime.
Route planning is a vital part of a successful hike. There is no better way than to learn how to read OS maps, to fill out a route card, and then get out and start hiking!
We have a stall at Ash Village Fete this weekend! If you can lend a hand, then please let us know. If you just want to drop by and say hi, that’s cool too!
Being able to light fire starts with preparing the wood you plan to burn, failing to understanding the different stages of sizing material will result in failing to light it. We can only learn this skill through practice.
